Ouano drag race today

-
Daredevils will burn the racetracks as the National Drag Race-Mayor Thadeo Z. Ouano Cup goes full blast today at the FF. Cruz Cebu Boardwalk in the Mandaue City reclamation area.

But today, the racers will cover a shorter distance of 700-meter, compared to the track last year at the South Reclamation Project (SRP), which was 1.4-kilometer long.

"With the current situation in SRP we were not allowed to stage the race there. We are thankful to Mayor Ouano," said race organizer Neil Labrador.

Another draw back in the competition is the turnout of the participants compared to the race in February last year. It dramatically decreased from 180 to 85. Entries today come from Bacolod, Ilo-ilo, Davao, Ormoc, Tacloban, and Cagayan.

The speedsters will be competing in Pro-class, street class and in brackets C and D.

The Cebu teams are among the strongest contenders with the Cebuano David Lim holding the Philippine record of 10.316 second in a quarter mile last February.

Manila is begging off from the competition but is bound to join in the next competition making Cagayan's Pro-Drive as Cebu's crucial rival.

"Cagayan is well funded and well supported. But chances are strong for Cebu," said Labrador.

Speedsters to watch out for are David Lim and Warren Go, who recently copped a 1-2 finish in Manila. - Sona Mae V. Povadora
