Latin champs see bright future for Cebu dancers

- Caecent No-ot Magsumbol -
British Latin professional champions Matthew Cutler and Charlotte Engstrand made a bold observation that Filipinos, particularly the Cebuanos have what it takes to reign supreme in the world dancesport ranking.

Ranked fifth in the World, the couple made a side trip to Cebu City after a holding a successful show in Manila.

"Filipinos I say are naturally graceful. You have very good talents especially in Latin American discipline," says Engstrand.

Cutler observed in some of his dancesport lessons that Pinoys are very responsive and are fast learners.

Cutler and Engstrand were able to establish themselves as one of the best dancers in the World even if the sport have less following and is criticized in Europe.

"This sport has been in Europe for 75 to 80 years. It's not popular there and in the Philippines, you have it for eight years and you have already produced very good couples."

The top British Latin dance couple also commended Cebu City Sports Commission dancesport group lead by directors Edward and Eleanor Hayco, who combined their efforts to come up with a grassroots development training program.

"You are very unique. It's something we don't have. We are very impressed with what you are doing here, unlike in our place, children only go to dancing classes as part of social graces imposed by our parents," Cutler said.

Both Cutler and Engstrand also hope to come back to Cebu one day and help the kids hone their skills.
