July 18, 2005 | 12:00am
Workout Fitness Center gym instructor Djong Alimbullo, who once thought of quitting from competitive bodybuilding, found himself at the top of the podium for winning the first Mr. Thirsty Bodybuilding competition at the full packed Cinema 5 of the Ayala Center-Cebu yesterday.
Winning the title, however, did not come easy for Alimbullo, not because there were other award-winning bodybuilders who joined the competition.
There were protests lodged before the contest started, wanting Alimbullo out of the competition because he is a three-time Mr. Philippines winner.
But the organizers ruled out the protest since Alimbullo competed in the open class.
The 34-year-old Alimbullo defeated Baseline's Jay Carillo, another multi-titled muscleman as Romualdo Barbon of Body Rock clinched the third place honors.
At fourth place was Zamboanga's Mariel Garganera and another visiting bodybuilder Charlie Labrada ended his quest at fifth place while MetroSports' Romeo Arnado was sixth out of 20 open division entries.
Alimbullo also celebrated the victory of his protégé James Entroliso came out the best among the novice entries.
Entroliso also from Workout Fitness exudes the best form over Adi Sonet of Colossus gym to win the Mr. Novice title.
The third to sixth placers in this Thirsty Juices and Shakes-presented competition are Shocker's Edwin Orjaliso, Arsu's Aurelio Adrena, Sr., Baseline's Charlo Salimbagat and Powertrip's Gallo Gabullao.
