July 9, 2005 | 12:00am
The first Quickflight Downhill Mountainbike Classic kicks off today with around 30 mountainbikers seeing action in Busay.
There will be two categories in store namely the hard-tail and the full-suspension bikes. However, a rider can join in both categories if he has the two kinds of bikes.
The two categories will be sub-divided into four classes like the beginners, novice, expert and executive.
A qualifying run will be made this morning.
Andot Rubi said they will have a cut-off for the different classes, and a rider who is found to slow down during the qualifying for them to be classified in a lower division will be disqualified in the final run.
Motocross riders Ted Conde and Gene Faelnar are among the top contenders in the expert's class.
Corss-country specialist Niño Surban will also join the event today.
Both Surban and Conde will be donning the Team Quickflight-Bikehub jersey.
Other names expected to grab honors are PJ Yu, Paul Paraiso and Nonoy Lopez.
The two-day competition is presented by Nature's Spring with the support of Bikehub, Cebu Boardwalk, Motosuit, Honda Philippines, Pro Grip, Cebu Extreme Bikers' Union (CEBU), Thinking Tools, Chokie Velasquez and Aison's Bike Shop. - Caecent O. No-ot
