USC head coach Mike Reyes said the Lady Warriors, led by veteran Jessamie "Zacky" De los Reyes, can fare well in the national championship.
The Lady Warriors, coached by Ryan Betia in lieu Jay Ramirez, claimed women's tiara in the regional elimination after defeating Ilo-ilo 's University of San Agustin.
Ramirez was in Dumaguete City for the YKL Asian University Basketball Championship where USC settled for third place.
After a failed bid last year where they succumbed to Bacolod, the 3-time national campaigner de los Reyes is back to regain lost glory and will banner the Cebuano team. Also in their second national final are Rachel Singson, Barbie Silada, and Diane Cañete.
Far Eastern University and the University of the Philippines are touted as the tough women squad to beat.
"We have a better chance of pulling off the national championships. Both teams (FEU and UP) are strong and athletic but our players have the same quality and skill, so we can beat them," said Reyes.
On the other hand, USC are also heralded as the top women's squad in the upcoming Cebu Schools Athletics Foundation, Inc.
The other women's teams are University of San Jose-Recoletos, University of Cebu and Cebu Institute of Technology. - Sona Mae V. Povadora
