Sarmiento and Durano lead winners in MEPZCEM golf

Rene Sarmiento and Boboy Durano led the cast of winners in the 2nd Mactan Export processing Zone Chamber of Exporters and Manufacturers (MEPZCEM) held last Friday at the Cebu Country Club.

Sarmiento logged a net score of 70 strokes and edged three players in the countback to bag the lowest net honors. Durano fired a gross score of 75 and won the lowest gross plum.

Sarmiento pulled past Durano, Harumasa Hoshino, and Mitch Sparks to claim the crown.

The class A title went to Hoshino with a net score of 70 while Sparks finished as runner-up. Hoshino won the title by virtue of a lower established handicap of 9 against the 17 of Sparks.

B. Gen. Willy Palugod topped class B with a net score of 71 strokes off a gross score of 93. Runner-up honors went to Arman Serafin with a net score of 72 after he beat Lino Yu, Renato Bontol, Guilbert Purcia, and Pete Cinco in the countback.

Roger Lim won the class C title with a net score of 73 strokes. Loloy Atega of PAL took the runner-up honors with a net score of 75 strokes after beating Jimmy Bernal in the countback.

Special prizes were also awarded for various feats. Pete Cinco was nearest the pin on No. 5 after his tee shot on the par-3 hole landed 50 inches from the cup. Toshihito Ikehata won the longet drive award on hole No. 1 while Renee Tariman nailed the longest putt on hole No. 9, sinking the shot from 200 inches away.

Darren Javier made the most bogeys with 12 while Sarmiento had the most pars also with 12. The most birdies plum went to Sparks with three.
