Muslim leaders establish Sultanate League

CEBU, Philippines — Leaders of the Muslim community convened a Consultative Meeting on Saturday, September 26, 2026, to finalize the proposed creation of the Sultanate League, an initiative designed to foster peace, order, and cultural recognition.

The gathering was spearheaded by Sultan Panoroganan of Region 7 Abdulazis Mayaman Macalandong, chairman of the Working Committee and President of the Cebu Muslim Businessmen. He was joined by six community figures:

•Sultan Nasrollah Conding – Assistant Regional Director, BIR Laguna

•Ayonan Datu Palawan Mai – President, Muslim Brotherhood

•Datu Imam of Region 7 Ustad Ali Mangorsi

•Datu Cali of Visayas Abubacar Gunang – Mediator

•Sultan Province of Cebu Samad Rangaig

•Radiamoda of Region 7 Mansawi Naga

Designed as an apolitical body dedicated solely to peace and socio-economic development, the Sultanate League will collaborate directly with local government units (LGUs) through the Regional Muslim Leaders Council.

Additionally, the League will support the AGAMA Arbitration Council in resolving internal community disputes amicably before they escalate to the court system.

Addressing the legal and cultural foundation of the initiative, Council Mediator Datu Abubacar Gunang clarified that the formation of the Sultanate League is grounded in the constitutional Bill of Rights, which safeguards and respects Muslim culture and identity.

Organizers also emphasized that former Mayor Tommy Osmeña remains fully recognized as the Sultan of Cebu.

The newly formed League is designed to complement and uphold his legacy as a defender of Muslim culture in Cebu, rather than replace his title. — (FREEMAN)
