CEBU, Philippines — A 25-year-old motorcycle rider died after his vehicle collided with a garbage compactor truck along the South Road Properties (SRP) northbound lane in Barangay Ermita, Cebu City, early Friday morning, July 31.

The victim was identified as Francis Duallo, a native of Inabanga, Bohol, who was temporarily residing in the municipality of Consolacion. He was driving a Suzuki Raider 150 motorcycle at the time of the accident.

Based on the initial investigation by the Traffic Enforcement Unit of the Cebu City Police Office (TEU-CCPO), the garbage compactor truck driven by Leslie Ignacio Cañiban was traveling along the northbound lane when the victim’s motorcycle, which was heading southbound, allegedly crossed into the opposite lane after hitting the center island.

Police said the motorcycle was believed to have been traveling at high speed before it struck the center island and veered into the path of the oncoming garbage truck.

The impact of the collision threw the rider about six meters from the point of impact, leaving him with serious injuries.

He was rushed to the Cebu City Medical Center but was declared dead on arrival at 2:35 a.m.

Police are continuing their investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the accident.

Authorities said they are determining whether a case of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to property will be filed, pending the outcome of the investigation. (CEBU NEWS)
