Firm proposes EV charging stations at Cebu City Hall

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival’s plan to establish electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at City Hall got a boost after a private company formally presented its proposal to build and operate the facilities.

“We welcomed the team from AC Mobility during a courtesy meeting regarding their proposed EV charging infrastructure initiative and the possible expansion of charging stations in key areas around Cebu,” Archival said.

He emphasized that the discussions focused on sustainable mobility initiatives and future ready infrastructure to support the city’s growing shift toward electric vehicles.

The delegation from AC Mobility, the Ayala Group’s rebranded mobility arm, was led by Government

Relations Lead Yvonne Castro and included Assistant Manager Sherwin Cheng, Government Project Manager Dennis Betito, Engr. Raul Lucero, and Atty. Winifredo Orcullo Jr.

The company, positioned as the Philippines’ first end to end mobility provider, outlined concrete plans for two charging sites within City Hall.

One site will feature dual 22 kilowatt AC Type 2 chargers, which are medium speed units suitable for vehicles parked for longer durations.

The other site will host a 60 kilowatt DC fast charger equipped with two CCS2 connectors, a widely adopted international standard that allows rapid charging for modern EVs.

The proposed installations are planned in front of the legislative building and the parking lot of the executive building.

AC Mobility assured that the stations will be monitored around the clock by its Network Operations Center, with payments processed digitally through the Evro platform, a cashless system designed specifically for EV charging transactions.

Archival has long advocated EV adoption as part of the city’s sustainability agenda.

He previously announced his intention to put up charging stations at City Hall, linking the initiative to reduced emissions, fuel independence, and the modernization of public transport.

In a recent press briefing, he acknowledged delays in the delivery of the city’s EV fleet but stressed that the charging stations would still be pursued.

“We might not be able to hit the target, but we will continue to have that electric vehicle unya we will be putting EV charging stations para ang atong mga vehicle nga giorder, makakuha gyud og electric power nga kinahanglan sa electric vehicles,” he said. (CEBU NEWS)
