Lapu-Lapu City provides P11K aid to Palaro delegates

CEBU, Philippines — The Lapu-Lapu City government has granted ?11,200 in financial assistance to each member of the city’s delegation to the 2026 Palarong Pambansa.
The national sporting event will be held in Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur from May 24 to 31.
The city delegation is composed of 37 athletes, along with coaches and support staff, bringing the total number of delegates to 69.
Athletes will compete in various events, including arnis, athletics, table tennis, volleyball, archery, basketball, and boxing.
During the distribution of assistance, Mayor Ma. Cynthia King-Chan expressed pride in the young Oponganon athletes and encouraged them to uphold discipline and sportsmanship as they represent the city on the national stage.
“Beyond the medals, I want you to remember that your character is what defines you. Play with integrity, fight with courage, and respect your opponents. Carry the resilience of Lapu-Lapu in your hearts,” the mayor said.
King-Chan said the financial support reflects the city government’s confidence in the athletes’ dedication and determination to bring honor to Lapu-Lapu City.
The mayor also announced additional cash incentives for medal winners in the Palarong Pambansa, with ?50,000 for gold medalists, ?30,000 for silver medalists, and ?10,000 for bronze medalists.
The city government reiterated its commitment to supporting programs that empower young athletes and promote excellence, discipline, and sportsmanship among the youth.
