Four more quake-damaged bridges in undergoing rehab
CEBU, Philippines — Four more bridges damaged by the magnitude 6.9 earthquake in northern Cebu are now undergoing rehabilitation as the Cebu Provincial Capitol continues its infrastructure recovery efforts.
With a P94.2-million allocation, the four latest projects are part of the recovery efforts following the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck northern Cebu on September 30, 2025, damaging several bridges and disrupting transportation in key municipalities.
Included in the latest batch of projects is the rehabilitation of Poblacion Borbon Bridge I, a 35-meter structure with a contract cost of P38.9 million.
Also included for repair is Poblacion Borbon Bridge II, an 11.9-meter bridge worth P7.2 million.
Another major project involves the repair of Tabunan Bridge I and II in Borbon, spanning 24 meters, with an allocated budget of P27 million.
Meanwhile, the Calumboyan Bridge in Sogod, measuring 19 meters, is also undergoing rehabilitation at a cost of P21.1 million.
The Provincial Engineering Office (PEO) said the newly launched bridge rehabilitation projects are aimed at improving mobility and ensuring safer passage for residents and motorists in quake-hit areas.
The additional projects are on top of the ongoing rehabilitation and reconstruction works already being carried out on other damaged bridges across northern Cebu’s fourth and fifth districts.
Based on Capitol data, at least eight bridges with a combined contract cost of P159.732 million are currently under repair.
These include the Cabica Bridge in Borbon worth P27.7 million, the Cadaruhan Bridge in Borbon worth P26.6 million, and the Tagnucan Bridge in Borbon amounting to P5.5 million.
Also undergoing rehabilitation are the Poblacion–Suba Bridge in Daanbantayan worth P33.3 million, the Guadalupe Bridge in Bogo City worth P20 million, and the Tabunok Bridge in Sogod worth P18 million.
Additional projects include the Piyo Bridge in Tabogon with a contract cost of P16.8 million and the Lamintak Bridge in Medellin valued at P11.4 million.
In a previous article by THE FREEMAN, Provincial Engineer Hector Jamora said the Capitol is prioritizing the restoration of critical infrastructure to immediately normalize transportation and economic activity in affected towns.
Jamora said the bridge rehabilitation projects were identified through the Post-Disaster Needs Assessment conducted by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office following the earthquake.
These bridge rehabilitation projects, approved by Governor Pamela Baricuatro, carry a total allocation of P276 million as part of the province’s broader “Kumbati Cebu” rehabilitation drive.
