Driver dies in TCH crash
CEBU, Philippines — A motorcycle driver died after crashing into an oncoming SUV along the Transcentral Highway (TCH) in Barangay Cansomoroy, Balamban on Saturday morning, May 9, 2026.
Police identified the victim as a resident of Mandaue City. He was reportedly traveling downhill toward Balamban when the incident happened.
Based on the initial investigation by authorities, the motorcycle was traversing a curved section of the highway when the rider allegedly lost control, swerved into the opposite lane, and collided head-on with an SUV bound for Cebu City.
Personnel from the Balamban Municipal Police Station immediately responded after receiving a report from a concerned citizen and proceeded to secure the area and assist in the emergency response.
The motorcycle rider sustained severe injuries from the impact and was rushed to Cebu Provincial Hospital–Balamban, where attending physicians declared him dead on arrival.
Meanwhile, the SUV driver, 31, a resident of Barangay Baliwagan, Balamban, was unharmed but is currently under police custody as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash, including possible speed, road conditions, and loss of control factors.
Police said the case remains under investigation as they continue gathering witness statements and reviewing the exact sequence of events to determine liability. (CEBU NEWS)
