‘Elders and Leaders’ Council backs Sara
CEBU, Philippines — Members of the Council of Elders and Leaders, aligned with the Former President Rodrigo Duterte Mo vement, signed a resolution yesterday expressing support for Vice President Sara Duterte amid the ongoing impeachment proceedings against her.
The signing took place during a council convergence hosted by former Cebu City mayor Michael Rama at Casino Español de Cebu and was attended by leaders and representatives from various parts of the country.
The group adopted Resolution No. 2026-05-08-01, which expresses what it described as “historic and unwavering support” for the vice president, affirms her electoral mandate, and raises concerns over the ongoing impeachment proceedings.
In the resolution, the council stated that the impeachment complaint may be “politically motivated” and called for scrutiny of alleged anomalies involving flood control programs and other reported irregularities.
It also contained provisions endorsing Duterte’s continued public service and calling for broader unity among sectors of society, including youth, workers, indigenous people, and faith-based communities.
The resolution further stated that the council “fully endorses” the vice president’s continued leadership and expressed support for her possible bid for the presidency, while urging the public to rally behind what it described as truth, peace, and progress.
Lawyer and former presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo, who was present at the gathering, said there is a need for unity amid national challenges.
“There is so much problem that this country faces, and yet it appears that there is no light at the end of the tunnel,” Panelo said, citing issues on poverty, unemployment, and governance.
The signed resolution will be transmitted to the Office of the Vice President and shared with regional leaders. (CEBU NEWS
