Ermita fire victims get relief aid
CEBU, Philippines — An estimated 600 to 750 individuals displaced by the fire in Barangay Ermita, Cebu City on Black Saturday, April 4, recently received relief assistance from Vivant Foundation Inc. (VFI), the corporate social responsibility arm of a Cebu-based company.
VFI distributed essential goods to address the immediate needs of displaced residents.
According to fire authorities, the blaze, which affected at least 150 families, caused significant damage to residential structures in the densely populated urban barangay, prompting emergency response operations.
The fire also affected the vicinity of Meridian Power Inc. (MPI), a subsidiary of Vivant Energy, formerly known as Cebu Private Power Company.
During the incident, MPI opened its facility to fire responders, serving as a staging ground for emergency operations.
Barangay officials said the access helped improve coordination and response efforts during firefighting operations.
Barangay Ermita Captain Mark Rizaldy Miral said the immediate access contributed to containment efforts and helped prevent the fire from spreading further in the densely populated area.
Authorities said the cause of the fire is still under investigation, while damage assessments are ongoing. — MRM (FREEMAN)
