CEBU, Philippines — With the opening of the DBP Naga Lite Branch in the City of Naga, Mayor Val Chiong underscored the importance of sustained partnerships and inclusive development emphasizing how collaboration has driven progress in the city over the years.

In his speech, he noted that the renewed collaboration signals another milestone, as both the local government and DBP continue to expand services and opportunities for Naga residents. The establishment of the Lite Branch is expected to improve accessibility to financial services, particularly for underserved communities.

He emphasized the city’s continued investment in education, citing the distribution of learning materials and the growing number of scholars benefiting from government-supported programs.

He encouraged stakeholders to support broader development efforts and stay engaged with policy discussions that promote inclusive growth.

The branch forms part of the bank’s commitment to bring financial services closer to communities, reinforcing its role as a partner in local development.

In her speech during the blessing and inauguration, Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro expressed strong support for the opening of the branch, describing it as a key step toward inclusive and sustainable development in Naga.

“This is more than just expanding capacity. It is about bringing services closer to our people and creating opportunities that will strengthen our local economy and make these opportunities accessible to every one of us,” she said.

Baricuatro also highlighted the importance of strong partnerships between the government and financial institutions, saying the presence of DBP in Naga reflects a shared vision for inclusive and sustainable development.

“Together, we are building a community that is stronger, more inclusive, and ready for the future,” Baricuatro said.

DBP Assistant Vice President Kristine Michelle Ancog, acting head of the DBP Talisay Branch and Naga-Lite units, said the move represents a “renewed commitment” to serve the growing economic needs of the city.

She explained that the new site was designed to be more accessible and convenient, allowing faster and more efficient transactions for clients in the area.

“We chose Naga then and we continue to choose Naga now because of its strong economic performance,” she said. The choice of City of Naga as a location was strategic, citing its strong economic activity and its status as one of the top depositors of DBP’s Talisay branch.

DBP chairman Philip Lo said the opening of the facility reflects the bank’s continuing effort to bring financial services closer to the people while strengthening support for development initiatives in the countryside.

“Today’s celebration stands as a strong testament to DBP’s commitment to providing a customer-centric banking environment, while ensuring that convenient access to a wide range of financial solutions is within everyone’s reach,” Lo said.

He added that the bank will continue to pursue service improvements with renewed dedication, including stronger engagement with government partners and clients.

He said the bank is ready to support priority programs in infrastructure, social services, MSMEs, and environmental protection, noting that collaboration between institutions is key to sustained progress.

“The relocation of the DBP Naga Branch Lite Unit underscores our confidence in the thriving economy of this bustling city,” Lo added. — BRP (FREEMAN)
