Basak fire victims get financial aid

CEBU, Philippines — A total of ?194,000 in financial assistance was distributed to residents affected by the February 28 fire in Sitio Sto. Niño, Barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City.

The cash aid was released on March 12, 2026, at the City Mayor’s Office and was facilitated by the City Social Welfare and Development Office, based on the extent of damage to the victims’ homes.

Five homeowners whose houses were totally destroyed received ?30,000 each, while two homeowners with partially damaged houses received ?10,000 each.

Home sharers whose dwellings were totally damaged received ?8,000 each, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to 10.

Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Ma. Cynthia “Cindi” King-Chan led the distribution and said the assistance is part of the city government’s emergency response to help affected families address immediate needs following disasters.
