CCCI taps BSP for ‘Beige Book’ insights

Ehda M. Dagooc - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) has begun working with the Bangko Sentral Ng Pilipinas (BSP) to contribute regional insights for the development of the Philippine Beige Book, a report aimed at capturing on-the-ground economic conditions across the country to support policy formulation.

During a recent meeting with the central bank’s Visayas Regional Office, the chamber discussed mechanisms for gathering business sentiment and sectoral trends from companies across Central Visayas, one of the country’s key economic centres.

The Philippine Beige Book seeks to compile qualitative and near real-time information from businesses and industry groups to complement official statistics, providing policymakers with a clearer picture of economic activity at the regional level.

Newly elected CCCI president Regan Rex King, said the initiative aligns with CCCI’s efforts to strengthen data-driven dialogue between the private sector and government institutions.

The central bank delegation was led by Anna Clara M. Oville, who stressed the importance of consulting regional stakeholders to ensure the report reflects timely economic developments across different parts of the country.

The inclusion of insights from Central Visayas is expected to broaden the report’s coverage, as policymakers seek a more granular view of business conditions to guide economic and monetary policy decisions.
