Danao benchmarks Lao Cai to boost logistics hub bid
CEBU, Philippines — In a bid to strengthen its standing as the “Logistics Hub of Northern Cebu,” the Danao City Government sent a high-level delegation to Lao Cai, Vietnam, for a comprehensive benchmarking mission on international economic integration and sustainable governance.
The delegation was formally welcomed by the Lao Cai Economic Zones Authority at the historic border bridge linking Vietnam and China. The site—renowned for its advanced Border Gate System—served as a live learning venue where Danao officials observed the efficient and seamless flow of goods across international boundaries.
Lao Cai authorities presented the operational framework of their border gate economic zones, which integrate industrial parks with high-efficiency logistics service areas. The model highlights how coordinated infrastructure development, streamlined customs processes, and strategic land use planning can drive industrial expansion and boost cross-border trade.
For Danao City, regarded as Northern Cebu’s primary logistics gateway, the visit offered valuable insights into managing large-scale movement of goods and services—an essential factor in stimulating local industrial growth and attracting investments.
The mission was organized under the leadership of Mayor Nito Durano and Vice Mayor Ivy Durano, reflecting the administration’s push to transform Danao into what they describe as a “Gateway of Opportunities.”
“We are not just looking at infrastructure; we are looking at a blueprint for the future of Danawanons,” Mayor Durano said, stressing that the benchmarking initiative extends beyond logistics to encompass governance reforms and sustainability strategies.
Beyond logistics management, the delegation also examined Lao Cai’s ecological protection initiatives, particularly efforts to balance industrialization with environmental preservation. They likewise studied community-based tourism programs that empower local communities to take the lead in sustainable tourism development.
City officials said adopting proven logistics management techniques could help Danao attract higher-value investments, generate more employment opportunities, and modernize public services. At the same time, strengthening community-based tourism is expected to ensure that economic gains reach the grassroots level, turning every barangay into a stakeholder in the city’s growth.
The delegation included representatives from the City Mayor’s Office, City Planning and Development Office, City Tourism and Development Office, Community-Barangay Affairs Office, and the Public Information Office.
Local officials expressed optimism that the strategic cooperation between Danao City and Lao Cai will yield long-term economic and social benefits, reinforcing Danao’s vision of becoming a key logistics and development hub in Northern Cebu. — (FREEMAN)
