Cebu utility firm powers up remote Palawan island school
CEBU, Philippines — A remote island school in Coron, Palawan, has been energized by Cebu-based energy company Vivant Energy, through its corporate social responsibility arm Vivant Foundation Inc.
Vivant recently turned over an 18.7-kilowatt-peak (kWp) solar power system to Canipo Integrated School under its flagship Project Liadlaw.
The ?3.6-million solar installation, turned over last February 10, now provides clean and reliable electricity to classrooms that previously depended on daylight and limited generator use.
The project was implemented in partnership with Calamian Islands Power Corp. (CIPC), a Vivant Energy subsidiary, and the Department of Education Schools Division of Palawan.
“Energizing last-mile areas has always been part of our mission. Projects like this help equalize opportunities to progress for all, especially for communities that are often beyond the reach of conventional power,” said CIPC President Eric Omamalin.
Vivant Foundation Inc. executive director Shem Jose Garcia said the organization remains committed to improving everyday living, adding that progress begins with access to reliable energy.
Local educators described the solar project as a transformative investment in the children’s future. (CEBU NEWS)
