OBO permit required for Sinulog bleachers

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — With preparations underway for Sinulog 2026, the Office of the Building Official (OBO) has reminded all project owners, organizers, and contractors that securing a building permit is mandatory for the construction or installation of temporary structures intended for the festivities.

These include bleachers, booths, kiosks, platforms, and stages, whether these are erected on public roads or within private properties.

In accordance with the National Building Code of the Philippines (Presidential Decree 1096), the OBO emphasized that all permit applications must be submitted for review and approval before any construction activity begins.

Applicants are required to submit duly accomplished and signed application forms, notarized clearances and legal documents, as well as technical plans bearing the necessary professional seals.

These requirements are essential to ensure structural safety and legal compliance, particularly for installations expected to accommodate large crowds during the Sinulog celebration.

The OBO further warned that failure to comply with the permit requirements may result in penalties or the dismantling of unauthorized structures.

The advisory serves as a proactive measure to protect public welfare and maintain order during one of Cebu’s most anticipated cultural events.

As part of the process, approved permits will be endorsed to the Sinulog Foundation, Inc. for proper coordination.

The OBO urged all stakeholders to cooperate and strictly adhere to the guidelines, underscoring the shared responsibility of ensuring a safe, dignified, and successful Sinulog 2026. — /FPL (FREEMAN)
