Bacayan fire leaves 71 homeles -
CEBU, Philippines — After a month of the onslaught of Typhoon Tino, Barangay Bacayan --one of the hardest hit barangays in Cebu City-- experienced another disaster as a residential fire broke out on Thursday afternoon, December 4.
According to the initial investigation of the Cebu City Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), at least 71 individuals comprising nine families in Sitio Sugarlandia of the said barangay were displaced by the fire that reportedly started at around 4:32 P.M.
Fire authorities then raised the blaze to its first alarm by 5:08 P.M.
Subsequently, they declared the fire under control around 5:12 P.M. and fully extinguished a minute later through the quick response of fire brigades in the city.
Reportedly, the residential fire engulfed about 280 square meters, wherein at least nine houses were burned. Seven houses were totally destroyed, while the other two sustained partial damage.
Further investigation also revealed that the fire spread quickly since most of the houses were made of light materials.
No casualties were recorded from the incident.
BFP also confirmed that the fire left an estimated damage worth ?420,000.
As of this writing, fire authorities have not yet determined the cause of fire with investigation still ongoing.
