CCPO unveils bicycle cops

CEBU, Philippines — As part of its proactive security efforts, the Cebu City Tourist Police Unit (TPU) launched a 20-member bicycle patrol team yesterday.
The bike-riding policemen were deployed to bolster police visibility, deter crime, and ensure the safety of both tourists and local residents. The program outlines designated areas and schedules for regular patrols to maintain consistent security coverage across the city.
The launch was led by Police Major Mark Don Alfred Leanza, TPU chief, together with Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) officer-in-charge Police Colonel George Ylanan, Deputy City Director for Operations Police Lieutenant Colonel Miguel Andeza, and several TPU personnel.
In his remarks, Ylanan emphasized the value of bicycle patrols in enhancing police presence and strengthening community engagement. He said the patrols not only allow officers to easily monitor their assigned areas but also reassure residents through consistent police visibility and support.
The TPU said the deployment forms part of the CCPO’s commitment to maintaining peace and order through strategic and community-oriented policing initiatives.
The Bike Patrol program will also serve as preparation for major events in early 2026, including the Sinulog celebration and the ASEAN Tourism Forum, both to be held in Cebu City. — (FREEMAN)
