Over 2,000 individuals still in temporary shelter

CEBU, Philippines — A total of 11 evacuation centers across Mandaue City remain active, sheltering residents displaced by the flooding brought by Typhoon Tino.
According to the latest report from the City Social Welfare and Services Office (CSWSO), 496 families—or 2,126 individuals—are still staying in various barangay-managed facilities.
City Administrator Atty. Gonzalo Malig-on Jr. said in an interview yesterday, November 19, 2025, that the numbers show only a small portion of evacuees remain in the city’s shelters.
He said the city government continues to work closely with barangay officials to allow affected families to gradually return to their communities.
“We want unta nga mas madali na ang pag-normalize para makabalik na sad sila sa ilang normal nga life,” Malig-on said.
He added that once the situation fully stabilizes, the city can then shift its focus to other pressing tasks.
The Mandaue City Central School in Barangay Alang-Alang is accommodating 38 families or 114 individuals, while the Canduman Elementary School is hosting one family or three individuals.
In Barangay Casuntingan, two evacuation sites remain active: Cabancalan Elementary School, whose gym is being used to shelter 26 families or 112 individuals, and the Casuntingan Gym, which houses 61 families or 235 individuals.
In Barangay Maguikay, evacuees are spread across two schools. Maguikay National High School has 92 families or 391 individuals, while Maguikay Elementary School shelters the largest group with 159 families or 789 individuals.
Meanwhile, the Paknaan Centro Gym—home to 20 families or 68 individuals—was scheduled for decamp yesterday as conditions in the area have improved.
Barangay Tabok’s Day Care Center has five families or 24 individuals, while Tingub National High School is hosting 30 families or 124 individuals. The Umapad Gymnasium currently shelters 64 families or 266 individuals.
City officials led by Mayor Thadeo Jovito “Jonkie” Ouano continue to monitor the situation in all affected barangays as they coordinate relief operations and assistance for displaced residents.
With evacuee numbers steadily declining, the local government is now focusing on helping the remaining displaced families return to normalcy.
Malig-on noted that those who continue to stay in evacuation centers are among the most severely affected—particularly families whose homes were totally damaged and have nowhere to return to.
He said the city is now facilitating their reintegration and recovery.
