Col. Ylanan new CCPO director

Nicholas Jon Malaga - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Police/Colonel George Ylanan has been named the new director of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), replacing P/Col. Enrico Figueroa who was relieved of his duties as the acting city director for more than 10 months.

Ylanan, an alumnus of the Philippine National Police Academy Class of 2002, is the former chief of the Regional Civil Security Unit 7. He was reportedly endorsed by Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival and Councilor Paul Labra II to the CCPO post.

Figueroa's relief was based on an order issued by Camp Crame dated November 12. However, the Police Regional Office 7 (PRO-7) has yet to give a directive for the formal inauguration ceremony and turn-over of duties to Ylanan.

Reportedly, Figueroa will be appointed as the new chief of the Regional Directorial Staff, replacing P/Col. Antonietto Cañete.

Meanwhile, Cañete will be appointed to lead the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office pursuant to the directive of PRO-7 Regional Director, P/Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan.

To recall, Figueroa assumed office as the acting chief of the Cebu City Police early on January 13 this year, replacing Cañete.

In his parting message, Figueroa extended his gratitude to Maranan, saying that the latter’s trust and mentorship have been his “constant source of strength and inspiration” during his tenure.

He also mentioned the CCPO Advisory Group, led by their Chairman Marlinda Angbetic-Tan, and thanked their support for the entire city police force.

Figueroa also acknowledged the men and women of CCPO, the Cebu City Government, and the Cebuano community for their commitment, collaboration, and understanding they all shared under his watch.

As Figueroa passes on the leadership to Ylanan, he said he will bring the pride and shared experiences of his service in the city.

“Daghang salamat, mga Sugbuanon. Mabuhay ang Cebu City Police Office!” he remarked.  -/RAE
