VECO to start power line expansion project at SRP

CEBU, Philippines — The Visayan Electric Company (VECO) has formally presented its expansion plan for the South Road Properties (SRP) distribution line to Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival, signaling a major infrastructure upgrade to meet the area’s growing demand for electricity.

The presentation was made during a coordination meeting with active locators at the South Road Property Management Office (SPRMO), where VECO Design Department Manager Michael Gonzales detailed the phased implementation of the project.

According to the Cebu City Public Information Office, the expansion involves overhead lines and will be carried out in phases. Phase 1 will start in front of the Department of General Services (DGS) compound, extending from El Pardo toward Filinvest.

Phase 1 is set to begin next week, covering about 1.5 kilometers of new distribution line. It is expected to be completed within the year, with the full project slated for completion by 2026.

The expansion is designed to support projected future loads as SRP continues to attract both commercial and residential developments.

Mayor Archival welcomed the move but raised concerns over aesthetics and safety, particularly at the SRP entrance. He directed VECO to remove two existing posts and consider alternative solutions for line relocation.

“Find a way, even if you have to put it underground,” Archival said. “We won’t be upset. The lights will look much better, and the posts won’t be an eyesore.”

In a related order, the mayor tasked the Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW) to address potholes along Vestil Road in Barangay Mambaling.

The road, which has yet to be turned over as a national road, has been the subject of complaints from motorists due to accident risks.

DEPW assured Archival that repairs will push through as directed, underscoring the city’s commitment to safer and more efficient roadways for both residents and visitors. — /FPL (FREEMAN)
