More than 300 households from MCWD water project
CEBU, Philippines — Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival expects that within two months, residents of Barangay Busay should finally have access to clean, running water through the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD).
This came when Archival led the MCWD’s pipe-laying ceremony at the National Housing Authority (NHA) Chapel last Monday.
Archival emphasized that the project must deliver relief to families who have endured decades of water scarcity.
There are 330 households under the Busay Heights Home Owners Association (BHHOA), many of whom rely on daily water deliveries from the Department of Public Services (DPS).
BHHOA Assistant Secretary Miraflor Miscala expressed cautious optimism, noting that while the NHA community is prioritized, other sitios also await connection.
“Ang gibuhat karon ang kada sitio, naay mga schedule aron dili magkagubot,” Miscala said thru the City’s PIO.
Archival in response said he will bring this matter to MCWD so that those outside the BHHOA will not also be neglected.
MCWD General Manager Edgar Donoso, on the other hand, said that the pipe-laying will be completed within 105 days—just in time for Christmas.
Donoso also added that once the initial connections are in place, MCWD will extend service to surrounding sitios, aiming to reach even the most remote areas.
“Tagaan nato tubig ang maagian, ang ato lang gipasudlan na nato og tubo para masumpayan sa mga sitio-sitio pero mga by December or even before Decemeber ato naning paningkamotan nga mahuman. Atong paningkamotan daghan maka avail og serbisyo sa MCWD bisan sa kabukiran na,” Donoso said.
Donoso also highlighted MCWD’s recent ISO certification under the Philippine Accreditation Bureau of the Department of Trade and Industry, assuring residents that the water quality now exceeds that of many refilling stations accordingly. — (FREEMAN)
