CCTO steps up crackdown vs illegal parking in Lahug

CEBU, Philippines —  The Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) has intensified its enforcement operations against illegally parked vehicles along Veterans Drive in Nivel Hills, Barangay Lahug, to address persistent traffic obstructions in the area.

CCTO personnel, in their two-day clearing operation conducted on August 21 and 22, issued a total of 43 traffic citation tickets (TCTs) to violators, and towed 16 unattended motorcycles into the city’s impounding area for safekeeping.

The City’s PIO said the operation was carried out in response to mounting concerns raised during the recent Traffic Management Coordination Committee (TMC) board meeting, where stakeholders flagged the area as a hotspot for illegal parking and traffic congestion.

The CCTO cited City Ordinance No. 1664, as the legal basis for the apprehensions, which mandates that any immobilized vehicle left unattended and deemed an obstruction to traffic flow or a public hazard shall be towed and impounded.

Releasing the vehicle is subject to full compliance with the ordinance’s penal provisions: Motorists issued with TCTs face a fine of ₱1,000 for illegal parking. Meanwhile, owners of the towed motorcycles must settle a ₱1,000 fine, a ₱1,500 towing fee, and a daily storage charge of ₱100 until the vehicle is claimed.

CCTO officials reiterated their commitment to maintaining road safety and traffic discipline, especially in high-risk zones like Veterans Drive in Lahug that serves as a vital link between urban and upland communities.

CCTO urges motorists to observe designated parking zones and remain vigilant of traffic regulations to avoid penalties and ensure smoother vehicular movement in the city’s key corridors. â
