Cebu City aims for global spotlight with world’s largest claw machine

CEBU, Philippines — Cebu City’s newest arcade attraction, perched at the iconic hilltop viewpoint in Barangay Busay, is reaching for the record books with a bold attempt to claim the Guinness World Record for the World’s Largest Claw Machine.

The record-breaking bid unfolded on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at PlayFair at TOPS, where a towering machine dubbed the CLAW KING took center stage.

Measuring 5.229 meters tall, 2.477 meters in width, and 3.88 meters in height, significantly surpassing the current world record dimensions of 5.1 meters in length, 2.4 meters in width, and 3.6 meters in height.

The official measurement was conducted by Engineer Noel Aguilar Jr. of Dakay Construction & Development Corporation (DCDC), in strict compliance with Guinness World Records standards.

The world record attempt was witnessed by Cebu City South District Congressman Edu Rama, Cebu City Councilor Joel Garganera, and architect-lawyer Michelle Vargas.

“Every time I visit Japan with my kids, we play the claw machine almost every day,” shared Rama. “It’s great for Cebu and for tourism. Not only do we now have the biggest claw machine, we also have the most elevated peryahan in the city.”

Atty. Venice Francine Bogo of PlayFair emphasized the broader vision behind the feat: “This record attempt highlights PlayFair’s commitment to creating unforgettable experiences at the TOPS Estate, while helping promote Cebu City as a vibrant and globally competitive tourist destination.”

If verified, the CLAW KING will be officially recognized as the world’s largest fully functional claw machine, earning both PlayFair at TOPS and Cebu City a unique place on the global entertainment map.
