CEBU, Philippines — After her brief stint with the Cebu 2nd District Engineering Office of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region VII in Dalaguete town south of Cebu, Engr. Susan Ornopia-Aroa is back to where she belongs in the field of public service.

In a special order dated July 1, 2025, DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan designated Ornopia-Aroa as officer-in-charge (OIC) District Engineer of DPWH-7's Cebu 4th District Engineering Office based Medellin town.

The official turnover ceremony yesterday was graced by Cebu Fourth District Rep. Sun Shimura, his wife Provincial Board Member Kerrie Keane Shimura, and the top officials of DPWH-7 headed by Regional Director Danilo Villa Jr.

"I am happy for DE Susan’s return in the district. Not because of anything else, but because she has only less than a year left before she retires. So dapat relax gamay because she will be closer to her family and she will be ending her career in DPWH in her hometown," said Shimura.

"DE Susan is one of the few, that our constituents should be proud of. Not all can be given the opportunity to be one of the highest, if not the highest position in the DPWH District Engineering Office here in the 4th District. I am just blessed to start my term with a DE whose track record and dedication precedes her reputation and whom i can confidently work with. It is very important to have that trust and confidence in every work place," added the former Daanbantayan mayor turned lawmaker.

For Ornopia-Aroa, rendering service to its truest form of helping people especially in the community that is close to her heart is her shining legacy in her four decades with DPWH.

The pride of Barangay Ilihan, Tabogon takes pride in the transformation of Cebu's 4th District in terms of infrastructure like school buildings and multi-purpose projects such as barangay halls, covered courts, roads, and bridges among her greatest accomplishments. She also initiated and introduced road widening like the four-lane national roads in the district.

"It’s really fulfilling and gratifying, serving the people in the place where I come from," said Ornopia-Aroa. JG (CEBU NEWS)
