Rifle grenade turned over to cops
CEBU, Philippines — A rifle grenade allegedly found years ago was voluntarily turned over by a concerned citizen to the Regional Mobile Force Battalion-7 (RMFB-7) in Barangay Colonia, Tuburan Town, Cebu, last Saturday, June 28.
This took place during a barangay visitation and symposium on anti-terrorism and anti-criminality spearheaded by the 701st Maneuver Company of the RMFB-7.
Based on a police report, the said resident, who was not named by authorities, kept the explosive for eight years already after he found it in their community.
The said resident decided to turn it over after being concerned for the safety of his family and neighbors.
The recovered grenade was then turned over to the City Explosive Ordinance Disposal and Canine Unit in Bogo City for proper handling and disposal.
In a statement, PNP regional director Police Brigadier General Redrico Maranan praised the resident for what he did.
"This incident proves that when people trust their police, lives are saved. The voluntary surrender of a high-explosive grenade is not a small matter, it's a brave and responsible act that removed a serious threat to the community," Maranan said.
Maranan also urged the public, particularly those who have explosives or illegal firearms to voluntarily surrender them to authorities. — (FREEMAN)
