TEAM to deploy 60 personnel for Holy Week

CEBU, Philippines — To maintain peace and security, at least 60 personnel from the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (TEAM) will be deployed across key areas in Mandaue City during the observance of Holy Week.

TEAM head Hyll Retuya said that a coordination meeting has already been conducted, during which personnel and mobile assets were strategically assigned to areas expected to attract large crowds.

Retuya noted that while Holy Week in Mandaue City is generally quiet, the agency remains vigilant and has designated personnel to be stationed at churches and public markets.

The traffic chief explained that officers will be deployed near churches to manage the influx of people attending religious activities such as processions of the Saints and the Passion of Christ.

He highlighted that larger churches, particularly the National Shrine of St. Joseph, typically host these events.

In addition to religious sites, TEAM will also assign personnel to markets, anticipating increased foot traffic as residents prepare traditional Holy Week dishes, especially binignit.

He emphasized that monitoring efforts will be intensified on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday at the Public Market and other satellite markets, as these are peak times for binignit preparation.

“Duna na tay mga saktong preparations ani…atong ipang deploy sa mga strategic places,” Retuya assured.

He confirmed that TEAM will be deploying its full force of personnel during the Holy Week period. As of April 15, 2025, Retuya said that their personnel are ready for deployment.

Despite the holiday, TEAM’s field personnel will remain on duty, focusing on maintaining peace, order, and the smooth flow of traffic throughout the city.

Retuya added that heavy traffic is not anticipated during the Holy Week, as many residents are expected to travel to their home provinces. Instead, TEAM will focus on roving patrols and monitoring key areas to help ensure a solemn and safe observance. — (FREEMAN)
