Navforcen ready for Holy Week, polls
CEBU, Philippines — In a meet and greet with media personalities and a press conference, newly-appointed Naval Forces Central (Navforcen) Commander Joselito de Guzman discussed the preparations for upcoming events in the Visayas.
De Guzman said that these events include their support to the Philippine National Police and maritime agencies in maintaining peace and order, and assisting in the upcoming elections.
“The top priority of a military commander in the area is to ensure the peace is secured and the well-being of every Filipino is well continued. So that anyone can go around without any fear of untoward incident,” De Guzman said.
De Guzman also outlined plans to support the expected influx of tourists in Cebu and assured the public of the Navy's readiness for the upcoming Holy Week.
“We’ve been preparing our service assets, our reservists not only in Cebu will be of help to the PNP and other Maritime agencies that will implement the peace and order situation here in the Visayas,” said De Guzman.
Looking ahead to the May 12, 2025 elections De Guzman said that all their personnel leaves will be canceled to ensure a maximize workforce.
“We the Navy here in the Visayas must ensure the people in the Visayas, to include the visitors, will be secured while they are here in the Visayas,” De Guzman added.
He also emphasized the importance of climate change mitigation and humanitarian assistance, particularly in relation to Mount Canlaon. — (FREEMAN)
