To motivate workers for sinulog task: CH readies charter day bonus

CEBU, Philippines — To motivate Cebu City government employees as they gear up for the Sinulog 2025 celebrations, Mayor Raymond Garcia has announced the preparations for their Charter Day bonuses.

“Para ganado sad ta nga maayo nato pagkabuhat ug pagka selebrar ang atong Sinulog, maganado sad ta og bonus karong February,” Garcia said during the flag-raising ceremony yesterday.

The city will mark its 88th Charter Day on February 24, 2025.

“I have already instructed last Thursday the Appraisal Committee to already meet and to give their recommendation as to pila ang atong ihatag nga Charter Day bonus sa atong mga igsoon,” he added.

Garcia said he has directed the committee to submit their recommendations this week.

“So that it will be up for deliberation for the Council and by first or second week of February, ato na na’ng ma-release ang inyong Charter Day bonus,” Garcia assured.

Last year, employees received their Charter Day bonuses in March after the City Council approved the first supplemental budget of 2024. Regular and casual employees were granted P25,000 each, while job order workers received P5,000 as gratuity pay.

Before the announcement, Garcia expressed his hope that employees were fully recharged over the long weekend, following the Christmas and New Year holidays. He emphasized the critical tasks ahead for Sinulog 2025 preparations.

“I hope nga kamong tanan, you had a good rest… Naka unwind mo and naka recharge mo sa inyong mga lawas kay karong panahuna, wa nay pahuway,” he told employees during the first flag-raising ceremony of 2025.

Preparing for Sinulog 2025

The city government is intensifying preparations for this year’s Sinulog festivities.

“You know very well nga Sinulog is a very critical celebration for us… While everybody else is celebrating and having a good time, we have to do the difficult task of making sure that our city is safe, in order, and our constituents and visitors are well attended to,” Garcia stated.

Garcia also reiterated his expectations for City Hall employees.

“I expect everybody’s cooperation and coordination in the coming days, especially leading to the celebration of our Sinulog Mardi Gras on January 19, 2025. Right back at where it belongs, the Abellana (Cebu City) Sports Center…. I need your 100% cooperation and hard work,” Garcia emphasized. — (FREEMAN)
