City government accepting college scholars starting next month

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Office of the Cebu City College Scholarship Program is set to accept new applications for the next school starting January 5 of 2025.

The city’s scholarship is open to graduating senior high school students residing in Cebu City or graduates from public or private schools in the city.

The office of the CCCSP has been conducting a series of orientations concerning the city’s scholarship program to different schools to entice more students to avail of this scholarship.

Executive director Judy Yap said they are done with their orientations in the public schools and are currently working with private schools already.

“Nahuman nata pag November 20 sa public schools sa tanang barangays, sa private schools napud ta mag-orientation,” Yap said via the city’s Sugbuanon Channel.

One should prepare to submit a copy of Cebu City Comelec Voter’s Certification of parent/s or applicant if above 25 years old; an original Barangay certification as to Residency (parent/s or scholar applicants if above 25 years old); original copy of combined annual income tax return (ITR) of both parents or annual ITR of a single parent (not more than ?400,000 per annum); a copy of proof of residency; utility bills like MCWD, VECO, or PLDT; PSA Birth certificate of the scholar-applicant; elementary, secondary, and senior high school diploma, or from alternative Learning System diploma from public schools here.

For private school graduates, one can avail of the CCCSP provided that they graduated from a public junior high school or have availed of the Department of Education’s Education Voucher System, Education Service Contracting, and School Certification on Academic/Varsity Scholarship.

All applicants must submit their requirements to their respective schools after which a qualifying examination will be conducted on April next year.

CCCSP also provides other services to its existing beneficiaries, especially those who plan to upgrade their scholarship benefits, resume their scholarship after a temporary setback, transfer to another school, or shift to another course.

However, scholars who plan to upgrade their benefits can only do so if they are under the CCCSP’s Ladderized Program for those taking up two-year college courses.

Scholars who request for an upgrade to their scholarship should also make sure that they don’t have failing grades in all of their subjects, Yap said.

Scholars who plan to request for an upgrade must submit a letter request to Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia through the CCCSP. A separate requirement should also be complied.

For scholars who wish to resume their studies but still avail of the CCCSP, they can still avail of the benefits as long as they provide a letter request to the mayor along with photocopies of all grades for the semester attended, result of examination and scholarship certificate/voucher, and an affidavit of undertaking.

Those who lost their scholarship after failing at least two subjects can still request for a resumption, provided that they retake and pass the subjects.

CCCSP also facilitates the transfer of scholars to schools of their choice and/or shift courses as long as they are still at the first-year level and have no failing grades during the first two semesters of their schooling. – /BRP (FREEMAN)
