New school building project breaks ground in Lapu-Lapu

CEBU, Philippines — The construction of a P40-million classroom building in Babag 1 Elementary School has began and will provide additional eight classrooms to the school which was among those heavily devastated by Typhoon Odette in 2021.

Officials from Lapu-Lapu City led the groundbreaking of the new four-story building last Friday, October 4. It is expected to be completed by April next year.

The new school building will also be equipped with closed-circuit television (CCTV) security cameras ensuring a safe environment for both students and staff.

During the groundbreaking ceremony, Lapu-Lapu City Congresswoman Cindi King-Chan highlighted the significance of renovation and upgrading school facilities particularly the devastation of Typhoon Odette that affected most infrastructures in the city.

She adds that investing in schools is crucial for the future of the children, particularly in providing access to safe and conducive learning environments.

Also present during the groundbreaking ceremony were Vice Mayor Celedonio "Celsi" Sitoy, members of the city council, Barangay Babag officials, Schools Division Superintendent Marilyn Andales, and representatives from the contractor
