OPASCOR labor woes fizzle out

CEBU, Philippines — Members and officers of Oriental Port and Allied Services Corporation (OPASCOR) employees union have agreed to refrain from doing mass actions and refocus instead on their shared commitment to a strong and stable company.

This despite an earlier notice of strike the employees union, affiliated with Associated Labor Union (ALU), had filed before the National Conciliation and Mediation Board (NCMB)-7.

In a statement dated October 5, 2024, the OPASCOR management sincerely appreciate the dedication and effort demonstrated by all parties involved, recognizing that open dialogue is vital as they forge ahead.

This resolution, the management said, not only reaffirms their commitment to the well-being of their employees but also honors the spirit of the community they serve.

“As we navigate the path ahead, we remain steadfast in our mission to foster a collaborative atmosphere that ensures the continued success of OPASCOR. Your unwavering trust and support inspire us, and together, we will continue to build a brighter future,” the statement reads.

To recall, the employees union filed a notice of strike on September 19, 2024 citing alleged union busting among others.

Established in 1990, OPASCOR is a worker’s enterprise engaged in the service of cargo handling operations at the Cebu International Port. (CEBU NEWS)
