500 displaced workers in Cebu City get government support

CEBU, Philippines — Over 500 displaced workers from Cebu City received aid from the government, and will be qualified for the Department of Labor and Employment's (DOLE) Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program.

The displaced workers received assistance from Senator Christopher "Bong" Go, with actor Philip Salvador as his representative.

In a video message, Go reiterated his commitment to supporting initiatives that aim to uplift the lives of Filipinos, and highlighted the critical role of government support for workers most affected during crisis.

“Tutulong ako sa abot ng aking makakaya. Bukas po ang aking opisina kung may kinakailangan pa kayong tulong," Go assured.

Go's Malasakit Team, together with Cebu City Acting Vice Mayor Dondon Hontiveros distributed masks, vitamins, snacks, and shirts to 500 beneficiaries at the Cebu City Sports Complex. There were also select recipients of basketballs, volleyballs, mobile phones, and shoes.

In coordination with local leaders and the national government, the beneficiaries are also qualified for DOLE’s TUPAD program, which is a community-based employment program designed to provide temporary work for individuals who are unemployed, underemployed, or working seasonally. The program offers employment lasting from 10 to 30 days, depending on the specific type of work.

Meanwhile, Lapu-Lapu City Lone District Representative Cindi King-Chan led the TUPAD payout in her district, with 2,259 beneficiaries or a total fund allocation of P10,572,120.

The beneficiaries are from all barangays of mainland Lapu-Lapu City. They worked for 10 days –from August 7 to 17, 2024.

“This initiative continues to provide essential support to our constituents, especially those who have been displaced from their jobs,” King-Chan said. — (FREEMAN)
