CEBU, Philippines — The Supreme Court announced that court operations in the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, Sandiganbayan, Court of Tax Appeals, and trial courts in all cities where local testing centers are located, which includes Cebu City, are suspended on September 11, 2024, during the second day of the 2024 Bar examinations.

This as Basak-Pardo Barangay Captain Dave Tumulak expects traffic in the morning and even more traffic in the afternoon for southbound vehicles.

“Mangayo lang g’yud ko og dispensa daan kay ma trapik g’yud inug ka buntag especially at 6 a.m. onwards unya inug kahapon mga 5 p.m. onwards kay mao nang orasa ang tigsulod og tinggawas sa atong mga Bar examinees,” said Tumulak. USJR-Basak Campus, which is one of the 13 testing centers nationwide, is located in his barangay.

A total 10,483 examinees nationwide showed up for the first day of the Bar exams held last September 8. Of the said figure, 1,055 bar examiners took the first day of examination at USJR-Basak Campus.

Acting Cebu City Mayor Alvin Garcia has issued an executive order imposing a liquor ban in all public areas within 100 meters from the USJ-R Basak Campus.

The liquor ban shall be effective from midnight until 11:59 p.m. on September 8, 2024, midnight until 11:59 p.m. on September 11, 2024, and midnight until 11:59 p.m. on September 15, 2024.

Hotels, resorts, restaurants, convenience stores, sari-sari stores and other establishments within the same area are prohibited to serve and allow the consumption of intoxicating liquor within their respective premises during this period.

The release of the results of this year’s Bar exams is tentatively scheduled for early December, while the oath taking and signing of the Roll of Attorneys are scheduled on January 24, 2025. — (FREEMAN)
