CEBU, Philippines — In order to help with the Provincial Government’s school feeding program, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) Port of Cebu recently donated 300 sacks of premium grade rice purchased from pooled donations from its employees.

“Our employees at the Bureau of Customs have come together to support this important cause. We are proud to contribute to the Capitol’s school feeding program, which plays a vital role in the health and education of our children,” said Atty. Marc Anthony Patriarca, assessment division chief of the BOC Port of Cebu in a report by Sugbo News.

As reported, Patriarca said that the employees raised approximately ?700,000 to purchase the rice.

Over 300 employees of BOC Port of Cebu and sub-ports in Bohol and Dumaguete reportedly contributed to raise the budget.

With this donation, the rice will be utilized for the program, which will feed public school students of the province, from kindergarten to grade 12, enrolled in 1,494 Department of Education (DepEd) schools in Cebu.

Governor Gwendolyn Garcia accepted the bureau’s donation in a ceremonial turn-over last September 2 in her office.

Garcia invited the BOC Port of Cebu officials to be present in the feeding program to personally witness their help to the student-beneficiaries.

The Capitol’s Sugbo School Feeding Program intends to feed more than 900,000 enrolled public-school students in DepEd, providing them with one “nutritious” meal a day.

Since its launch last year, the feeding program hopes to address malnutrition in the Province and nurture overall health among schoolchildren.

Also present during the ceremony were Provincial Board Member Loren Singco and other BOC Port of Cebu officials. —/ATO (FREEMAN)
