CEBU, Philippines — The Russian delegation has arrived in Cebu for the three-day international summit this week.

The delegation, led by Vyacheslav Gennadyevich Kalganov, Deputy Chairman of the Committee for External Relations of Saint Petersburg, comprises leaders and heads of various government committees in Russia's medical sector.

They arrived at the Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA) on August 19 and were welcomed by Cebu Provincial Board Members Glenn Anthony Soco, Stanley Caminero, Provincial Tourism Officer Maria Lester Ybañez, and Carissa Garcia, daughter of Governor Gwendolyn Garcia.

The multi-sectoral summit will discuss various partnerships across multiple sectors, including tourism, business, and economic development. The Cebu Tourism, Health, and Business Summit will be held on August 21-23, as part of the 455th Founding Anniversary of Cebu Province.

According to the Capitol, the highlight of the summit includes a medical symposium in partnership with the Napolkov Cancer Center in Saint Petersburg, one of the largest cancer research and treatment centers in Russia.

The upcoming forum is a result of Governor Gwendolyn Garcia’s trip to St. Petersburg, Russia, in June this year, where she also attended an international economic forum.

The Capitol aims to establish a strong profile in the international arena to attract more foreign investments in Cebu. Aside from attending the summit, delegates from Russia will witness the Pasigarbo sa Sugbo on August 25 and will be treated to a tour of various tourism destinations in the province through a mini Suroy-Suroy Sugbo organized by the Capitol.

Last night, the delegation also attended the State of the Province Address by Governor Garcia. — (FREEMAN)
