CEBU, Philippines — The Mandaue City government yesterday announced the series of activities it has lined up as the city celebrates its 55th Charter Day on Aug. 30.

In a press conference, Mayor Jonas Cortes said the city allocated P20 million for the month-long celebration, which includes the business month celebration of the Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The activities also include the Aug. 29 groundbreaking for a P3-billion government center at the lot where the Cebu International Convention Center stood, participation in the Pasigarbo sa Sugbo on Aug. 25, several sportsfest activities, nightly shows and several sectoral competitions.

Corte said the series of activities “reflect its (Mandaue City) vibrant community spirit and its commitment to making every moment count” as these events, “will be a wonderful opportunity to come together, celebrate the past and look forward to a future filled with promise.”

“As we gather here today, we are not just launching the 55th Charter Anniversary of our beloved Mandaue City, we are celebrating a journey of 55 years towards excellence, 55 years of moving forward, transforming challenges into opportunities, and building a city that stands as a testament to the resilience, unity, and strength of its people,” he said during the media launch yesterday.

The mayor said that “every step they have taken, every milestone they have reached, and every dream they continue to pursue is fueled by their unwavering commitment to progress and innovation.”

“As we reflect on our history, we honor the legacy of those who came before us, who laid the foundation for the thriving city Mandaue has become today,” he said.

He further said that “this 55th charter anniversary is a powerful reminder that the journey continues with renewed strength and determination, and move forward in our unwavering pursuit of excellence”.

“Together, we will keep advancing, keep striving, and keep shaping Mandaue into the best it can be for ourselves, our children, and the generation yet to come,” Cortes said. — (FREEMAN)
