PRO-7 eyes 100 percent “drug-cleared” status before 2024 ends

Jonnavie Villa - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — With 71-percent of the barangays in Central Visayas now considered “drug-cleared”, the Police Regional Office-7 is aiming a 100-percent “drug-cleared” status before the year ends.

PRO-7 director B/Gen. Anthony Aberin is optimistic of achieving a “drug-cleared” status before the year ends claiming that the illegal drug problem in Central Visayas has been managed well.

In fact, Aberin claimed that they have remarkably decreased the drug supply in the region.

“We are moving forward, papunta po tayo sa part ng eventually we will be successful in our fight when 100% of our affected barangays are already cleared,” said Aberin.

According to Aberin, Cebu remains a major transhipment point of illegal drugs from Luzon for distribution to Mindanao. He said that drugs are not distributed in Cebu but are merely passing through for distribution elsewhere.

The regional police official claimed making headway in the campaign against illegal drugs. In fact, he reported a total of P2.5 billion worth of drugs confiscated from June 2022 to July 2024 where P1.2 billion worth have already been destroyed.

Aberin expressed gratitude to the community for their support, emphasizing that these collective efforts have been significant in reducing crime rates and improving public safety.

“We give credit po sa support po, indispensable support po ng ating community because without those support na binibigay ng ating community definitely wala po kaming ganoong kataas na accomplishment po sa PRO-7,” said Aberin. — (FREEMAN)
