Slaughterhouse to rise in Barili

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu Provincial Government is eyeing constructing a Double A slaughterhouse in Barangay Mantalongon in Barili Town, known for its livestock market in the south.

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia announced that the Capitol will allocate funds to develop and improve Mantalongon's market.

“Busa karong gabhionan, isaad sa Provincial Government, together with the Municipality of Barili, atong himoan og maayo nga desinyo, plano, and we are willing to spend as much as ?50 million to ?100 million alang sa pagpa-improve nato sa Mantalongon Market,” Garcia announced during the Panumod Festival.

The governor said improving the market of Mantalongon was the dream of her brother, the late Barili mayor Marlon Garcia.

The said facility will be constructed with complete modern equipment and in line with the standard for hygienic, quality, and safe livestock meat ready for sale in the market.

A Double A slaughter house is a kind of slaughter facility accredited by the National Meat Inspection Service of the Department of Agriculture.

Garcia said the construction of the said facility and improving the livestock market in Mantalongon would be beneficial the community as livestock is one of the livelihoods of the residents there and in neighboring places.

The Panumod Festival is the town's celebration to honor the livestock market in Barili which also serves as one of the agricultural hubs in the province.

During the festival, Garcia also announced that the Capitol will be giving subsidy to the contingents wherein each of the eight contingents will receive ?300,000.

Another ?4 million will also be given to the LGU of Barili to cover its expenses for the said event. — (FREEMAN)
