The Freeman Anniversary Celebration: Cebu landmarks light up in red

CEBU, Philippines — Three of Cebu City’s landmarks have added more color red to The Freeman’s 105th anniversary yesterday.

The Cebu Cordova Link Expressway Corporation (CCLEC) lighted the country’s longest bridge with red lights as tribute to Cebu’s longest-running community newspaper.

“We join you in your celebration by lighting up in red the main bridge of our Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX),” read part of CCLEC’s statement sent to The Freeman.

“Here's to more years of unwavering service. From the longest and tallest bridge in the country to the longest-running newspaper in the VisMin region, congratulations The Freeman!” it added.

The National Museum of the Philippines (NMP)-Cebu at the Port of Cebu aduana area and SM Seaside City at the South Road Properties likewise expressed the same intent.

“We are lighting the museum in red in celebration of The Freeman’s 105th anniversary and in recognition of its dedication to community journalism,” said NMP-Cebu’s Audrey Dawn M. Tomada.

She said it is also their way of advancing NMP-Cebu mission of chronicling the stories that capture Cebu’s culture and heritage.

Finally, SM Prime Holdings Inc. Vice President Marissa N. Fernan likewise greeted The Freeman on its anniversary, while also looking forward to many more years for the paper to remain in circulation.

“Congratulations to The Freeman on celebrating 105 years of excellence in journalism! Here's to many more years of outstanding reporting and service to the community,” she said. —RHM (CEBU NEWS)
