Hayco wants Aguilar out of Cebu City, CV

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Philippine Sports Commissioner Edward Hayco wants Department of Education (DepEd)-Cebu City Schools Division assistant superintendent Adolf Aguilar out of the city and the region for alleged unprofessionalism.

“Because he is not working professionally with the Palaro people,” said Hayco, who is the former chairman of the Cebu City Sports Commission.

Hayco noted several negative feedbacks against the DepEd-7 official even before the opening of the 64th Palarong Pambansa in Cebu City. Complaints against Aguilar allegedly escalated when the biggest sporting event involving elementary and high school student athletes in the country started.

According to Hayco, several individuals working and even volunteering in the Palaro have expressed their disappointments and complaints on Aguilar. He, however, refused to mention names but some are allegedly from DepEd themselves and the city government.

Hayco said he tried to avoid clashing with Aguilar but he could not help but tell DepEd Regional Director Salustiano Jimenez regarding the sentiments of the Palaro workers and volunteers.

Hayco mentioned a well-respected person whom Aguilar allegedly did not treat well.

“He needs to learn how to work with people,” Hayco added.

For his part, Aguilar said he was just doing his job, even stepping up beyond his task just to ensure Palaro’s success.

Aguilar is confident that despite some negative feedbacks on the side, there are still many people including, DepEd officials, that would rally behind him and vouch on the efforts he has put into the staging of this year’s Palaro.

“I talked to one of the mayors, who had been here the entire week, and he said we have one of the best venues in Palaro. We have the malls, we have the university so nindot gud kono kaayo ang atong mga venues nga maoy ilang gilantaw ron sa ilang paghost sunod tuig,” Aguilar said.

“Naa ang taga Agusan nag-observe sa atoa. Naa sad ang taga Bayawan nga interesado pud ni sila mo host sa 2027 so ilang gilantaw kung ang Cebu bilang sumbanan sa mga umaabot nga mga Palarong Pambansa,” Aguilar added. — Jonnavie Villa (FREEMAN)
