CEBU, Philippines — The Pasigarbo sa Sugbo ritual showdown will make a return to the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC) next month.

The Capitol’s request to go back to CCSC as the venue of the cultural event was granted by acting Cebu City Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia.

The showdown is scheduled for August 25 with towns and cities in Cebu Province set to showcase their respective festivals and compete for the Pasigarbo.

The CCSC will also be the same venue for the awarding of the winners the following day, August 26, after the competition.

Last year, the Pasigarbo sa Sugbo was held at Carcar City Sports Complex because CCSC was then under renovation. This time, the Capitol wants the festival to be held at its original venue.

Pasigarbo sa Sugbo is dubbed as “the festival of all festivals” because the different local festivals of over 50 towns and cities in Cebu Province will come together and compete. The event is the highlight of Cebu Province’s month-long celebration of its founding anniversary.

This year, Cebu Province is celebrating its 455th founding anniversary.

The participating LGUs are already gearing up for the said event, with some are already practicing, others preparing the designs and logistics of their contingents, while others are almost in the final stage of their preparation.

Every year, to defray the cost of the preparation, the Capitol gives financial assistance to the participating contingents as subsidy.

The Sugat sa Kabanhawan Festival of Minglanilla emerged as the grand champion of the ritual showdown of Pasigarbo last year.  — /ATO (FREEMAN)
