CEBU, Philippines — Three centenarians from different towns in Cebu received P100,000 each from the Cebu Provincial Government.

Governor Gwendolyn Garcia personally handed the checks to two centenarians from Camotes Island last June 26, which was the last stop of the Capitol s Caravan of Services in the area.

Elpedia Maranan from Tudela town and Teodora Ibon Tenchavez from Poro town were all smiles as they received the cash aid from the Capitol, meant as appreciation for their long years of service and contributions to their respective communities.

Maranan was born on February 14, 1924 and has eight children.

According to Sugbo News, Capitol s official media arm, Maranan revealed that the secret to her long life is having proper diet. She shared that she eats nutritious food such as vegetables and fish, which are abundant in the island.

Meanwhile, Tenchavez was born on April 21,1924 and has two children. She also shared that she takes vitamins regularly. Apart from that, a proper diet is also her secret to having reached a hundred years old.

Tenchavez shared that she drinks milk, eats corn grits or binlod nga mais, Utan Bisaya, and til-ugon fish.

These two centenarians from Camotes Island also received wheelchairs, vitamins and seedlings, and the ABAG Sugbo QR coded cards that entitles them to free medical checkups and medicines at the Ricardo L. Maningo Memorial Hospital.

Centenarian Florita Paradela from San Fernando town also received a P100,000 check from the Capitol during the caravan of services at Minglanilla town last June 22.

Paradela was born on April 10, 1924 with 16 children. Her secret to having a long life is reading books, praying every day, and eating fresh vegetables from her backyard while avoiding food with preservatives.

Gov. Garcia also led the distribution of aid to Paradela, and was joined by first district Congresswoman Rhea Mae Gullas and San Fernando Mayor Mytha Ann Canoy.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DWSD)-7 also gave assistance to the centenarians through food packs, and the Department of the Interior and Local (DILG)-7 gave slippers and five kilos of rice.

Their guardians were also awarded with certificates of entitlement for the Sugbo Kahanas, ensuring them slots in the Capitol s P100 million technical and vocational skills training program.
