Electrical wires, dead poles cleared

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City government has started tidying up the surrounding areas of the Cebu City Sports Center—the main venue of the Palarong Pambansa 2024 set next month.

After an ocular inspection last Friday, Cebu City Councilor Jerry Guardo, who chairs the City Council’s Technical Infrastructure Committee and was also recently named as overseer for the City’s Department of Engineering and Public Works, told The Freeman that they found several redundant and “dead” poles.

With this, Guardo disclosed that at least 15 poles were taken out with some of them transferred on the side to avoid obstruction while others have been removed permanently.

“Naay electric pole from VECO, nikawat na gyud sa dan, I ordered it removed. Naa poy poste sa PLDT nya naa poy mga poste nga kahoy nga wala nay silbi, ang wire na lang ang nagkupot, we had it cleared and removed,” Guardo said.

For wooden poles that needed to be replaced, they have substituted it with concrete ones and elevated the clearance. Some redundant poles have also been taken out.

“Before there were redundant poles…nagdoble. When I checked, pwede ra e-attach sa usa ka poste. There’s no need for us to put up additional poles,” Guardo said.

At the intersection of the entrance going to CCSC for one, only one out of three poles is left.

Aside from that, the city government, through Oplan Ratsada, also got rid of the spaghetti wires along the area.

“It’s an eyesore kaning mga dead wires, so amo na ning gipanguha pud,” Guardo said.

The electrical wirings at the back portion of the CCSC have also been insulated so workers can proceed on repainting the area.

Guardo said other areas in the city, especially in major thoroughfares, will also be checked and tidied up. (CEBU NEWS)
