CEBU, Philippines — Cebu locals and tourists alike can now explore the South Road Properties for free on a modern, clean, and air-conditioned shuttle bus from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

While the area already has several establishments including malls, hotels, condominiums, restaurants, and a food park, many people still hesitate to explore beyond SM Seaside City because there is no public transportation plying some areas.

With this, one of the city government’s joint venture partners, Filinvest Land Inc. through City di Mare thought of buying shuttle buses and are currently offering free rides with CITRASCO as its operator.

FLI deputy general manager for City di Mare Gwen Sala said that the shuttle buses actually serve both the general public and the employees working in the SRP.

Currently, they have three buses with different colors for easy identification.

From Il Corso, the City di Mare pink bus goes as far as Talisay via R&M Auto Repair Shop and back passing through CEIVADI Warehouse, VH Garces and back.

The blue bus will go from Il Corso to F. Vestil and N. Bacalso while going back, from N. Bacalso it will pass through F. Vestil, L. Gabuya, C. Padilla, Magallanes, Aduana, the Cebu South Coastal Road, and back.

The green bus will go from Il Corso to F. Vestil, N. Bacalso, F. Llamas, Katipunan, R. Duterte, V. Rama and the Archdiocesan Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe de Cebu in Guadalupe and back.

Sala said they chose these routes as these pass through barangays that are highly populated that also need more public transportation. The amount of traffic in these areas was also taken into consideration. Buses will leave from Il Corso to each of the routes every two hours.

As to until when the free rides will be offered to the public still depends on the demand.

The free ride is seen as welcome news for those who want to watch the Palarong Pambansa events that will be held at the SRP in July.

More of these shuttle buses are also expected especially when the Cebu’s Bus Rapid Transit system is already operational as they can serve as feeder lines. — (FREEMAN)
