No ASF cases in Cebu City since November

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City government, through its Department of Veterinary Medicine and Fisheries (DVMF), hopes to finally go back into the pink zone after no cases of African Swine Fever (ASF) have been reported for more than seven months already.

Currently, the city is still under the red zone status or an area with infection. Pink zones or buffer zones, are areas where ASF is not present, although it is adjacent to an infected zone.

However, Cebu City is now allowed to transport and receive pork-related products.

According to DVMF chief Dr. Jessica Maribojoc, no cases of ASF have been recorded in the city since November of last year.

With this, DVMF has already applied with the Department of Agriculture-7 for it to be upgraded from red to pink zone to indicate no infection.

Once ma-pink zone na ta, padulong na siya sa green zone and dako na siya og impact sa economy, especially sa atong mga traders, Maribojoc said.

She added that the city government has not stopped its surveillance on ASF.

Mao sab na akong gipasalamat no kay ongoing man gud ang atong surveillance sa ASF, wala gyud ta nag-stop ana. Every Friday hangtud kadlawon way hunong atong mga tawo to check sa status sa ASF, Maribojoc said. — /ATO (FREEMAN)
